It’s Tarpon Time in Hernando County, Florida!

April 28, 2014 - May 31, 2014

When is Tarpon season in Hernando County, Florida 2014?

For Florida fishermen, the answer may be as simple as, how long do you want to wait for them to arrive? The migratory nature of tarpon puts these fish within casting distance of literally every coastal pier and jetty along the Hernando County Coast. Tarpon will enter the bays and backwaters of Hernando County coastal estuaries year-round. But, in April, large pods of spawning-size tarpon begin moving along our coast following bait schools and warming water. Tarpon school up for company on these migrations making them plentiful and easier to catch. In Hernando County, they’ll linger for many weeks in what is surely a pre-spawn ritual, a speed-dating exercise of sorts. For anglers hoping to visit Florida to catch a tarpon, your first step should be to book a guide who knows the area and the Tarpon’s habits. Whether you’re looking for a guide who fly fishes for Tarpon or one who uses conventional bait, visit http://www.naturallyhernando.org for a full listing of fishing guides and their services. You’ll be on the right track for landing your record tarpon.
